Driving from the Detroit area to Cincinnati, Ohio is a bit dull, to say the least. Look out the window on I-75 and what you see goes something like this: farm... corn field... farm... farm... corn field... farm... Touchdown Jesus... farm. And the ride just got even more boring.

Following a storm on Monday evening, the Touchdown Jesus is no longer. The 62-foot tall, 40-foot wide, monstrosity of a statue was struck by lightning and burned to the ground. All that remains is plastic foam and fiberglass over a blackened steel frame.

The famous highway landmark was built in 2004 and stood at the Solid Rock Church, just north of Cincy. Church officials say the statue will be rebuilt, this time using fireproof materials. [via AP]
