Nowadays everyone owns an iPod, or at the very least a Discman. But if you were a kid in the 80s or 90s, you had a Sony Walkman.

Since hitting stores in 1979, Sony has sold 220 million of the portable audio cassette players. But the company announced Friday that it will stop selling the once-popular Walkman in Japan. Feeling old yet?

Someday you'll find that box of old cassettes stashed away in the back of a closet. Cassettes filled with recordings of favorite songs you taped from the radio, some you may have even gotten commercial-free. And while you won't be able to play them back, other creative options will emerge.

You can leave a response, or trackback from your own site.
