A
five dollar foot-long from Subway, or a luxury
grilled cheese sandwich for $170 -- which would you rather buy for lunch? Michelin-starred
Chef Martin Blunos created the costly $170 sandwich for England's annual
Frome Cheese Show. The high price is a result of the gourmet ingredients: cheddar cheese blended with white truffles, quail egg, heirloom black tomato, apple, figs, dainty mustard red frills, pea shoots, red amaranth, 100-year-old balsamic vinegar dressing and sourdough bread topped with edible gold dust. Doesn't sound appetizing to me, but then again I don't have that kind of "cheddar" to burn.
